In March 2012, Advanced Security became a community-owned enterprise established as part of the works of Attawapiskat Resources Inc. – now Attawapiskat Enterprises. Advanced Security, a Timmins, Ontario-based provider of security and security risk management protective services, has operated throughout the region for more than 25 years.

It is the first and only wholly-First Nation-owned and licensed security firm in Ontario.

• Advanced Security has delivered over 20 contracts in the City of Timmins and throughout Northeastern Ontario. The company continues to provide security services in the areas of mining, education, government, health care and retail (loss and prevention).
• In a Joint Venture with a Moose Cree First Nation member business, it has been contracted to provide services at the Lower Mattagami Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Smoky Falls Station
• Security personnel have been hired for the Mid-Canada Radar Site 415 (Ontario Government) Environmental Remediation Project at Cape Henrietta Maria on James Bay.
• The company is an important generator of jobs for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in the region. Currently there are 130 employees, including hires for local contracts in the area of Attawapiskat First Nation community itself.
• In 2019, the company purchased All Security, a provider of security systems (alarms, cameras, card access, etc.). This acquisition allows Advanced Security to provide complete security solutions to our customers.
• Our tech division is fully committed to provide the best in commercial security system, fire detection, anti theft CCTV systems and a variety of control systems.

This progress and these priorities make the company an excellent component of the Attawapiskat Enterprises business strategy and
for First Nation ownership.

Attawapiskat Catering LP was the first community-owned enterprise established as part of the work of Attawapiskat Resources Inc. — now Attawapiskat Enterprises.

Important training opportunities have also resulted for three Attawapiskat First Nation members and other First Nation community members who certified as cooks.

In January 2011, Attawapiskat Catering LP secured an annual contract for food services and housekeeping requirements at the De Beers Canada Victor Diamond Mine.

The newly formed Aboriginal firm contracted with Outland Camps, an employee-owned Canadian enterprise to partner with them in providing the services. Outland has more than 28 years’ experience in supplying and operating full-service, remote work camps. The company also has special expertise in providing hands-on training to First Nations workers.

After four years in business and achieving a very positive client service rating, Attawapiskat Catering LP is now developing new contract opportunities beyond the ‘Victor’ site. This will diversify its client base to other camp catering sites where Attawapiskat First Nation members can be trained and employed.

In 2013, the company signed a contract for the Province of Ontario’s environmental remediation project now underway at the former Mid-Canada Line Relay Station at Cape Henrietta Maria, located at the northwestern tip of James Bay.

Before 2012, our community did not have even basic cell phone service.  This increased safety concerns in the remote location and made it difficult for business officials and other visitors to contact people on-reserve and elsewhere.

Over the course of two years, we conducted multi-party negotiations with public and private sector companies.  In April 2012, the first community-owned cell phone service was launched as Attawapiskat Cellular Services. The result was improved safety, security and quality-of-life for community members and visitors.

In late 2013, day-to-day coordination of cellphone acquisition and related issues was transferred (devolved) to Attawapiskat First Nation administration.
